Wow, 2010 was a fantastic year for Maslaha!

A very brief snapshot:

  • Our exhibition in partnership with the British Council - “Evliya Celebi: Book of Travels” was launched physically in Bethnal Green Library in March, and the virtual experience followed in June.  Evliya proved hugely successful - it was featured in Time Out, BBC London and Elle Middle East.  The website has since been translated into Turkish, and the physical exhibition was recreated in Turkey and at the brand new Yunus Emre Cultural Centre in London.  See photos above for the glamourous opening with the President of Turkey!
  • 2010 also saw the completion of three groundbreaking health modules - Caring for your Heart and Your Healthy Pregnancy with Birmingham East and North PCT, and also Diabetes Matters with Westminster PCT.  Maslaha has since won an award from the London Health Commission for this work.  We also met Andrew Lansley, the Secretary of State for Health, and Baroness Warsi up in Birmingham when they came to visit.
  • We launched I Can Be She, our brand new project on women and Islam.  Check out the new website for fascinating films, articles, with much more to come.
  • As an organisation, Maslaha is growing, learning, and feeling extremely energetic, and we’ve had the opportunity to meet some fantastic people and make great friends across the globe.

We’re so excited to build on all of this in 2011, and we’ve also been scheming and plotting with some great new ideas in the works. We hope you’ll join us in our adventures, it’s going to be an exhilarating ride…
