Meet Gulalai Ismael, international peacebuilder from Pakistan.
We’re filming Gulalai on Friday for I Can Be She, but if you want to meet her yourself check out the Peace Direct event below!
Peace Direct’s Spring event – People Power for Peace.
Please join us to share wine and canapes with international peacebuilder Gulalai Ismael from Pakistan and a group of young leaders from our conflict resolution project in London – Truce 20/20. They will lead you through an exploration of the concept of People Power, and what we can all do to harness that power. Expect to leave uplifted and ready to take action.
Gulalai is the young leader of a project based in Swat in northern Pakistan, which works to prevent adolescents from being radicalised into violent organisations. She will share the experiences of her grassroots struggle against Islamic radicalism in the epicentre of religious extremism.
Held in the famous Lots Road Auction House in Chelsea, the reception will launch both a groundbreaking new interactive film written by and starring the young people from the Truce project, and Peace Direct’s new projects in Pakistan, Kashmir and Congo.
Date: Thursday May 12th
Venue: Lots Road Auction House, 71-73 Lots Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0RN
Time: 6.30 – 9pm
RSVP by Friday 6 May to reserve your place: Please contact Helen on helen@peacedirect.org or 0207 549 0285. We suggest a donation of £10 per guest to cover costs for the evening
Peace Direct supports local action to stop conflict and save lives. We have projects across Africa and Asia and we support work that has the potential to make a real difference. The work we support in Congo has grown from a small church based organisation in 2004 to one that demobilised 1020 combatants last year and helped 14,000 people who had fled violence, return home. Each project finds its own way to harness people power.
You will join us right at the start of these new projects – and have the chance to follow them as they grow to stop conflict and unite communities. We need people to take collective action to help fund these projects – so any amount you can give will kick start them on their way.
We really hope you can join us – Please let Helen know if you can: helen@peacedirect.org
